When emergency strikes in any area, the most vulnerable are usually children and the first class of challenges are usually on health grounds. In northeast Nigeria, conflict between the militant group Boko Haram and government forces has uprooted 2.4 million people from their homes. Nearly a quarter of a million children are acutely malnourished in Borno State: of these, an estimated 49,000 children will die if they do not receive treatment immediately.

People affected by the Boko Haram conflict in Borno State in northeast Nigeria need your help today. Please help us deliver lifelines to severely malnourished children and displaced families whose lives have been torn apart by crisis.

Child Support

ERICS believes that a healthy child is a healthy future. We take direct aid to the vulnerable disadvantaged kids in underserved communities. We strive to avail health care together with its social determinants to homeless and very low-income children. Because of a very disordered terrain with weak community data, we work directly with local schools to reach the children with the greatest needs. We are currently working on a comprehensive model that will cater to the holistic health of our target children.

Nutrition

An unnourished brain cannot think. Good nutrition fuels both body and mind. That is to say that a child that has not had a balanced diet will be unable to function in the classroom and participate actively. Even if the child attempts to be attentive, it is only natural that the brain synthesizes information according to its strength. ERICS carries out nutritional outreaches to local schools, particularly in underserved areas. We give nutritional education as well, to make kids know the meaning of healthy foods and eating right.

Protection

Children deserve protection from physical, emotional and mental vices. When children are exposed to the open world, they become prone to different manners of dark experiences. A single experience can have long term effects on a victim. Recurrent experiences however can mean disaster on a child. ERICS provides shelters to homeless children and eases living conditions for them. There is a staggering number of street children in cities across Nigeria such as in Lagos and Port Harcourt. We carry out researches to get current grasps of the causes of some of the factors that cause children to be homeless and how these causes can be curbed. We also work to improve the policies that protect the rights of children. We strive to make the society safe and friendly for effective growth and development of the child.
